What is certification and how does it work?
Certification is a testing process that determines if an individual’s skills and knowledge meet or exceed a certain level of competence. In February 2007, the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) approved standards for accredited vendors that offer challenge course practitioner certification. While the standards have been developed by ACCT, the certification continues to be granted directly by Adventureworks.
Adventureworks! Associates, Inc. provides ropes course and climbing wall certification in conjunction with our open enrolment courses – when you register for the training course, you are automatically registered for the certification testing that follows. Certification testing may also be offered in conjunction with a contract course offered at your site.
Ropes Course Re-certification Testing
Challenge Course Practitioner Certification requires re-certification every year for Level One; every three years for Level Two; and every five years for Challenge Course Managers. Re-certification testing involves a written test and a practical skills assessment for the level you are re-certifying. Updated manuals are provided to re-certification candidates prior to the Testing Day. Please note that no training or instruction is provided during a Re-certification Testing Day.
Refresher Training
Participating in one of our Ropes Course or Climbing Wall Refresher days will update your skills and practices. This day-long workshop is designed to update you on changing standards, practices, and operational procedures and prepare you for the both the written test and practical skills assessment. Refresher training is not available to individuals without certification.
Registration Process
Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) Certification Standards outline a number of pre-requisites including:
- Individuals must be 18 years of age
- Level 1 certification is a pre-requisite for a Level 2 course
- A challenge course practitioner portfolio documenting 200 hours of experience is required prior to registering for a Level 2 course
