Disarming
the Playground:
Violence prevention through movement and pro-social skills
By
Rena Kornblum
Disarming the Playground presents a movement-based curriculum for
violence prevention that can be used for teaching impulse control and
anger management to children. It also teaches protective behaviours,
such as strategies to defuse potentially violent situations. Movement
activities are presented in a format that can be used by teachers,
parents, social workers, dance/movement therapists and other
professionals. Suggestions are given for ways parents might utilize this
program at home and professionals might apply it in other settings
including special education, psychiatric populations, family therapy,
other grade levels and parenting classes.
